2024 college football rankings: Oregon, Georgia top; Arizona State made a big move

The Arizona State Sun Devils will make this College Football Playoff selection committee think about it. They will make this set of suits one of a kind at the Texas resort and decide whether to keep Boise State in a place that will reward us with one of the top four sports conference champions and a first-round bye.

After a season that has been historic for both programs – each is certain to make the CFP for the first time in school history and each has a Heisman finalist on the tail – the champion of the Big 12 should feel like the depth of its league (four teams finished the season tied for first place) good enough to put it ahead of Boise State.

Meanwhile, the Broncos, who have won more games this season than the Sun Devils and whose only loss came in the final game against the No. 1 ranked Oregon Ducks, should feel like they did enough to keep their spot at No. standards.

The strength and volatility of the Big 12 is demonstrated by four teams ranked in the CFP top 25. Perhaps the committee will not care about fairness or consistency in their final decision. But we do, and we’re going to catch them.

With that, here’s a look at my top 25 rankings following Week 15 of college football season:

1. In Oregon (13-0)

Week 15 result: Lost to Penn State, 45-37

Dillon Gabriel threw for 283 yards and four touchdowns as Oregon added another five-game winning streak to its perfect season. The Ducks will be the No. 1 seed in the 12-team CFP for the first time.

2. Georgia (11-2)

Week 15 result: Lost at Texas, 22-19 (OT)

Backup QB Gunner Stockton came off the bench after Carson Beck was injured and led the Dawgs to their second win over Texas this season. With the win, Georgia secured its third SEC title under Kirby Smart and a first-round bye in the playoffs.

3. Notre Dame (11-1)

Week 15 result: It doesn’t work

4. Penn State (11-2)

Week 15 result: Lost to Oregon, 45-37

Week 15 result: It doesn’t work

6. Texas (11-2)

Week 15 result: Lost at Georgia, 22-19 (OT)
