2024 NFL Bad Beats: The ruins of a goal line crossing covered the Browns

During Monday Night Football, it was the final play of the Broncos vs. Browns game that caused bettors pain.

A last-minute intervention by Jameis Winston ruined the coverage of the Browns

Entering the game, the Browns were down 6.5 points against the Broncos. At halftime, Denver led 21-17 – meaning the Browns’ spread bettors were looking good.

However, the second half was madness.

Thirty-five points in the second half were scored, and the score was flip-flopping. Denver would go up 31-25 with 1:52 left in the third quarter until Jameis Winston led a nine-play 72-yard drive to put the Browns up 32-31. On the next possession, Bo Nix and Co. would end their drive with a field goal to make it 34-32 with 2:54 left in the fourth quarter.

The Browns were still rallying at this point, and had a chance to win the game. But Winston would be blocked for a touchdown on the fourth play of the next drive, putting Denver up 41-32.

At this time, the cover seemed impossible. But with 1:44 left, Winston drove the Browns down the field and gained 37 yards in six plays. In the seventh game, Cleveland got a big break.

Winston lofted a deep ball to Michael Woods and defensive pass interference was called on the play – a 36-yard penalty that would have put the Browns at the Denver two-yard line. Two yards was all they needed to cover the Browns.

Then, Winston did the unthinkable. He threw a goal-line pitch, his third of the night.

Before Winston’s late-game attack, Kevin Stefanski and Co. they had 44 seconds and two shutouts to get a touchdown— which would have caused the Browns to cover.

Winston set several records despite the loss, as his 497 yards set a Browns single-game record and are the second most in Monday football history. Jerry Jeudy also had an impressive night, recording 235 receiving yards—more than any player against his former team in NFL history.
