Here’s how VP-elect JD Vance’s Senate seat will be filled
As Sen. With JD Vance poised to take on the role of vice president next year, Ohioans will need someone to fill his Senate seat.
Initially, the governor of Ohio will contact someone to fill the vacancy created by Vance leaving the seat. Later, there will be a special election to fill Vance’s remaining Senate term, according to Ohio law.
“The nominee shall hold office until the fifteenth day of December following the regular state election which shall be more than one hundred and eighty days after the vacancy occurs,” Ohio law says.
