NCIS: The Origins’ Austin Stowell Gets Back To Mark Harmon Soon

The prequel, starring Stowell as the titular character, will begin in 1991 and follow the life of young Gibbs. Harmon made an appearance on screen during the first series, giving viewers a few glimpses of the fan-favorite character in the modern day.

“It’s a difficult task to rebuild Gibbs and go back and try to tell this story while respecting the fans and the story of the original show,” Stowell said. Us. “We want to do our best work as actors, as artists, as writers and storytellers. Although there can be a lot of pressure, Mark Harmon makes us feel comfortable and makes us feel justified in our decisions.”

Stowell’s approach to playing Gibbs was somewhat simple – he had to do his own version.

“Mark Harmon created this character that the world loved. He did that for 20 years. I’d be a fool if I didn’t try to take some of what he did and bring it to this version of Gibbs. But it would be a mistake for me to try to imitate who he is as an actor and as a man, I just don’t like that,” he explained. “I had to take out what habits I was born with because there are body movements and the way Mark talks. There is a certain vibrancy and volume in his speech that is very different from who he is. I definitely tried to sit on some of those.”

He continued: “But it was very interesting to me what traits and what behaviors Gibbs would learn over the years. So that’s going to be really fun to let those behaviors blossom and let the fans see them come to life. “

While NCIS: The Origins is a prequel to the original CBS hit, the newest addition to the franchise is self-contained.

“You don’t need to have seen the original show to watch ours. You don’t need to know a single thing about it. Will it sometimes be more fun because you find Easter eggs that someone who hasn’t seen the show can find? Yes, absolutely,” explained Stowell. “But there are also times when there is information that the fans of this program will know that the newcomers will not. So you can be a researcher in these episodes and actually have new and exciting ones because you never know what’s coming.”

Stowell liked the back view NCIS: The Originsadding, “There was a way to do it NCIS for a long time and that works. But it’s our job to push the limit so with this new game, we’re trying to get a little more perspective. We find out what makes these characters who they are, how they become the characters we see on the show 20 years later.”

Digging deeper meant channeling more emotions than solving the issue of the week.

“We had to go down a lot on the emotional level, have more personality, have more raw material and hope that the audience will enjoy that inner journey. It’s been a tricky but fun line to try and do a little bit,” Stowell commented. “I love the way our writers have created our show and allowed us to live in both worlds.
