President-elect Trump has tapped two powerful chiefs to oversee the expansion of American power in his second term, and the industry has already provided the incoming administration and Congress with a wish list of what they would like to see as the top priorities of the leadership’s agenda.
On Friday, the incoming commander in chief announced in a press release that North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum will not only be appointed to the position of Secretary of the Department of the Interior, but will lead the National Energy Council, “which will bring together all the Departments and Agencies involved in permitting, production, production, distribution, control, transportation, in ALL forms of American Energy.”

Then on Saturday, Trump named Liberty Energy founder and CEO Chris Wright as his choice to lead the Department of Energy, noting that Wright will also serve on the National Energy Council.

“He has worked in Nuclear, Solar, Geothermal, Oil and Gas,” Trump’s statement said. “Most importantly, Chris was one of the pioneers who helped launch the American Shale Revolution that fueled America’s Energy Independence, and transformed Global Energy Markets and Geopolitics.”

Reacting to this selection, the President of the American Conservation Coalition (ACC) Christopher Barnard said that the combination of Burgum and Wright is “really a dream team.”
Trump has made energy independence and boosting oil and gas production a cornerstone of his campaign. While on the campaign trail, he promised to expand fracking and proposed a moratorium on liquefied natural gas sales, a stark contrast to the Biden administration.

The president-elect also vowed to run for his second White House time to get out of the Paris climate agreement, roll back stricter emissions standards for cars and power plants and boost US oil and gas production, including through fracking.

Those planks on his energy platform seem to align well with the priorities of the American Petroleum Institute, which issued policy guidance in an open letter to the incoming president and Congress last week, listing the priorities that must be addressed by 2025 and beyond aimed at protecting America. power leadership.
While Trump’s newly elected nominees have yet to release their to-do list, API President and CEO Mike Sommers told FOX Business that there are some steps the administration can take to right the ship in Trump’s second term.

Sommers said API also looks forward to working with Wright, once confirmed, “to strengthen America’s national power by lifting the DOE’s freeze on LNG export permits and ensuring open access to American energy to our partners around the world.”
API’s 5-point policy plan outlines priorities for the administration and the Republican-controlled House and Senate, including:

- Repeal of restrictive coastal leasing laws, beginning with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Conservation and Landscape Health Rule
- End the EPA’s methane bill that misrepresents Congressional intent and does nothing but increase the cost of producing American oil and natural gas.
Modifying our permit system
- Reform the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA)
- Change the Clean Water Act
- Promote judicial reforms

Developing sound tax policy
- Maintain a corporate tax rate of 21% to ensure global competitiveness

Phil Flynn, an energy market analyst and contributor to FOX Business, says that the most important thing is for the Trump administration to “bring back sanity” to the US energy policy, which, in his opinion, was absent under the Biden administration, saying that clarity and vision are what the US oil and gas industry wants.
