Trump FCC pick says bringing ‘censorship cartel’ to heel will be top priority: ‘It has to end’
Bringing the “censorship cartel” to heel is expected to be a priority for incoming Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr.
On Sunday, President-elect Trump explained how the incoming administration’s commitment to protecting free speech could translate to social media and beyond.
“Fighting technology censorship will be one of my top priorities. We need to restore the right of the American people to free speech,” he told “Sunday Morning Futures” guest host Jackie DeAngelis.
“He mentioned Facebook and other companies. They were part of a research organization that worked with advertisers. They worked with government officials to censor the free speech rights of Americans every day, and that has to stop because the research is not about stopping work, it’s about stopping ideas.”

“America is a country of founders, of people who have broken the boundaries, they push the boundaries. They innovate, if you silence the speech, you silence the ideas, and we show the prosperity of America again. That’s why you hear this change in the country. When people know that President Trump is going to lead another America that is coming back, because this wet blanket of control the government is leaving, and our economy will grow again.”
Big Tech companies have long come under fire for allegedly stifling free speech and operating in a biased manner, perhaps most famously when Twitter removed Hunter Biden’s laptop story from its site prior to Elon Musk’s takeover and various platforms, including Facebook, censored content labeled as false information. with COVID-19 during the pandemic.
A few months ago, Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, agreed to bow to pressure from the Biden-Harris administration to censor content on their platforms and expressed regret for doing so.

With the changing of the guard coming up next month, Zuckerberg reportedly dined with President-elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
White House deputy policy chief Stephen Miller shared the news on “The Ingraham Angle” last week.
“It is clear that he also has his interests, he has his own company and he has his own plans,” he said. “But he made it clear that he wants to support the renewal of America under the leadership of President Trump.”
Trump tapped current top Republican FCC member Brendan Carr to lead the agency last month as his Cabinet began to form, branding him a “champion of free speech” who is “fighting against regulatory rule that has stopped the liberties of the American people, and held back our economy.”
