Right-hander Frankie Montas has agreed to a two-year, $34 million contract with the New York Mets, multiple media outlets reported Sunday night.
Coming off the National League Championship Series, New York is trying to fill out its starting rotation after watching Sean Manaea, Luis Severino and Jose Quintana hit free agency.
Montas’ deal is pending a physical, and the 31-year-old can opt out of the contract following the 2025 campaign, according to reports.
In 30 starts with the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers last season, Montas went 7-11 with a 4.84 ERA. He pitched 150 2/3 innings with two clubs.
Montas is 44-46 with a 4.09 ERA in 160 career appearances (129 starts) with the Chicago White Sox (2015), Oakland Athletics (2017-22), New York Yankees (2022-23), Reds ( 2024) and Brewers ( 2024).
The Mets went 89-73 this year and reached the postseason in the NL wild card race.
