Honda is recalling approximately 206K vehicles that may have fuel leaks

Honda is recalling approximately 206,000 Passport and Pilot vehicles that may have fuel leaks.

The automaker announced the move on Thursday, saying the affected 2023-2024 Passport and 2023-2025 Pilot sport service vehicles “may have an incomplete connection between the fuel filler neck tube and the fuel filler pipe that could cause the two parts to separate in an accident, allowing fuel to leak and increase the risk of fire or injury.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall report, the potential problem stems from a “out of sequence process” in the fuel line installation that “prevented the fuel neck tube and fuel line from forming a complete connection.”

Production of the recalled vehicles will take place between February 2023 and May of this year, the statement said.

There have been no injuries or deaths from the potentially problematic connection to date, according to Honda. The company filed one warranty claim in this matter.

The automaker said it announced the recall to “encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for inspection as soon as they receive notification.”

Owners will receive letters notifying them of the recall in early January, according to Honda.

At the dealership, workers will “connect the fuel filler neck to the filler pipe” on recalled vehicles with incomplete connections between components, the automaker said. Both the test and the service will be complementary.
