Dave Portnoy’s Ex-Wife Renee Still Gets All His Money
Dave Portnoy he still has a close relationship with his ex-wife, Renee Portnoy.
“We met when Barstool was nothing, so he went with us,” Dave, 47, said on a recent episode of “The Sage Steele Show” podcast. “However, for now, you can actually get all my money. If he just wanted to be like, ‘I’m taking it and going,’ he couldn’t.
Dave proposed to Renee, 41, in 2008 and they married the following year. Throughout the early days of the company, she was referred to as “The First Lady of the Barstool.” After eight years together, the couple announced their separation in 2017.
Their split was amicable — and Dave revealed in the same podcast episode that he and Renee are still married after their legal separation was finalized years ago.
“We’re still technically married right now, so you can come in,” she said. “We tried to get a divorce in Massachusetts, we were denied.”
When the podcast host Sage Steele when asked how the judge could “deny the divorce,” Dave explained that it had to do with their financial situation. (Dave is estimated to be worth about $150 million.)
“He and I have an unfounded relationship with finances,” he continued. “He’s not like, ‘Give me half,’ and we’ve been legally separated for a long time. The judge said that our agreement was unfair to him. They’re like, ‘You’re worth more than half as much.’
According to Dave, Renee told the judge that she wanted no part of his fortune.
“So, we’re going to do it in Florida,” he added. “But we had that joint bank account. I trust him completely.”
Dave admitted that he and Renee still have a good relationship – she has even been called best friends – despite their split.
“We both share love dogs,” he said, “he will say hello to my parents and vice versa.”
Dave added, “We spent a lot of time together starting at Barstool when it was growing and we split up when it took off. But he was with me all the time. In my mind you have the right to enjoy its fruits. He saves more than me.”
Because he was there at the beginning of Barstool, Dave noted that there was a “unique lifelong bond” between them. The Barstool Sports founder also made it clear that there was no “big bang at the end” of their relationship.
“We always got along,” said Dave. “The marriage wasn’t working the way we wanted it to.”
