Maha Kumbh 2025: As India gears up for the big event, Railways is spending over Rs 5,000 crore in 2 years; 3,000 special trains on the cards

As the country looks forward to the 2025 edition of the Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest congregations in the world, Indian Railways is learned to have already spent over Rs 5,000 crore in the last two years on special preparations. Railways, one of the largest employers in the world, plans to operate more than 13,000 trains to cater to the grand mela including 3,000 special trains. To ensure seamless rail connectivity in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, authorities have successfully constructed 21 Road Over Bridges (ROB) and Road Under Bridges (RUB).

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday inspected preparations for the grand Maha Kumbh festival in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj district, where she began inspecting the ongoing development works at Jhunsi railway station and the newly constructed bridge under the Prayagraj doubling project. -Varanasi railway line on the river Ganga.

He also looked at the ongoing development works at the Phaphamau station under the development plan and gave the necessary instructions to the officials concerned.

The minister also visited and inspected Prayag Junction station, held detailed discussions on measures to ensure passenger comfort. The Prayagraj Junction station is being developed under the Indain Railway Station Redevelopment Plan, an ambitious plan aimed at upgrading hundreds of railway stations across the country.

The Union Minister inspected the passenger shelter at Prayagraj Junction and observed the ticket storage area, color codes and signages available outside the shelter.

The minister guided the participants on several important things to achieve this goal. He carefully observed all the arrangements including areas such as medical and emergency services, cleanliness and decorum, safety and security of passengers, and timely operation of trains at these stations.

The Minister of Railways also discussed with the concerned officials to ensure a series of special preparations for the big event, including important security areas such as crowd management and control.

He also looked closely at the arrangements made in terms of food, lighting, drinking water, medical facilities, community facilities and security systems at the passenger shelter.
