Lara Trump announces she is stepping down as RNC chair amid talk she may run for Florida Senate
Lara Trump announced on X that she will step down as the chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) saying that during her time the RNC had three different goals, and they have all been accomplished.
He began his tenure as RNC chair in March 2024, but has been widely reported to be considering his options as his father-in-law, President-elect Donald Trump takes over the White House again.
“With that big win, I feel like my time is up,” he said. “What I set out to do has happened.”

Trump began his tenure as the next speaker in March and was essential for Republicans to regain control of the Senate while maintaining a small House majority.
There has been talk that he could be considered to replace Florida Senator Marco Rubio as Trump has said he will be nominated as the next Secretary of State.
Last month he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he would “like to serve the people of Florida” and would “like to consider” filling the seat if asked.

On Sunday, Trump discussed with Howard Kurtz what an honor it would be to be considered.
“Of course, we’ve all had the opportunity in the last nine years to be fully involved in politics, to understand the American people, what they want, and we’ve all been citizens of the state of Florida now for more than three years,” he said. “If that’s something that’s put in front of me, it would be a real honor.”

Maye Musk, the mother of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, is one of many who want her to replace Rubio.
“The Senate is an old man’s club. We desperately need a smart, young, outspoken woman who will reveal her secrets,” he wrote in X. Lara Trump is 42 years old.

Elon Musk seems to agree with his mother’s sentiments as he responded to her X post saying, “Lara Trump is seriously beautiful.”
Sen. Lindsey Graham, RS.C., said on “Hannity” that “she’s going to be very happy” and that Republicans “couldn’t do better … than Lara Trump.”
Ultimately, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is reportedly slated to succeed Pete Hegseth, will choose Rubio’s successor.
Michael Whatley will remain chairman of the RNC.
