Actress Jenny Mollen flies with head lice: An expert weighs in
Instagram users seemed to have questions and concerns after actress Jenny Mollen shared a video revealing that she got biting head lice while on a plane.
Mollen, who appeared in the movie “My Best Friend’s Girl” and is the wife of actor Jason Biggs, said that she was on a flight from Los Angeles to New York when she noticed that she had head lice, which was pointed out by her friend.
His announcement on Instagram, along with the following post, was shared by Mollen late last month but it made recent headlines and caused users to be heard.

“I hope you tell the workers,” said another.
Mollen, who was seen wearing plastic on his head in the video, said that he had been scratching his head for two weeks.
In a recent video, Mollen is seen getting a head lice treatment and debunking the debate about flying with head lice.

Head lice are parasitic insects found on the heads and bodies of people and can be spread by close contact with people who crawl and cannot jump or fly, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Christine Bonanno is the owner of Fairy LiceMothers, a professional lice removal service that has been in business for over 18 years with locations in Long Island New York and Austin, Texas.
Bonanno told Fox News Digital via email that the most common way to catch head lice is through head-to-head contact.
“It’s possible to catch head lice while flying. You wouldn’t get it from the seat of the plane itself, you’d have to sit next to someone who actually has it,” Bonanno said.

Bonanno added, “the only place lice can live is on a person’s head… The old bugs will crawl from head to head – you can’t catch an egg – only an insect.”
He said the most effective way to treat head lice is to comb out all the parasites, and it is very important to contact those around you to get checked and treated.
“The hair acts as a bridge for the lice to crawl from one to the other. So smaller hairs are better exposed. Hair tied back in a braid or bun helps,” says Bonanno.

Bonanno, a licensed head lice specialist, said certain scents such as lavender, peppermint, coconut and tea tree oil can help repel the bugs.
Treatments at removal service companies like Fairy LiceMothers usually take between one and two hours but may take longer if done by someone.

“We tell clients, ‘check once a week,’ which means check for lice every week, so even if you get [lice] it will be manageable and easy to treat,” said Bonanno.
