All the debris has been cleared one week after the cargo plane crashed in Lithuania
A recovery operation has been completed after a cargo plane en route from Germany to Lithuania crashed in Vilnius last week, police said on Monday.
All debris from the Swiftair flight, which was flying from Leipzig in eastern Germany to the Lithuanian capital, on behalf of shipping giant DHL, has been removed, a police spokesman said.
Small parts of the plane were removed last week while larger pieces of the plane – including the cockpit of the Boeing 737 – were transported by truck to a waiting area for inspection over the weekend.
Flight data records have also been obtained and will be analyzed in Germany.
A cargo plane crashed into a residential area near Vilnius Airport shortly before landing on November 25, breaking into pieces. One of the four crew members on board the plane died.
Photos of the accident scene published by Lithuanian media show destroyed buildings and burnt vehicles.
Residents of the damaged building have been temporarily relocated.
The cause of the accident was not yet known. So far, there are no indications of a possible terrorist attack or act of vandalism.
Lithuanian authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, with investigators from Germany, Spain and the US supporting the efforts.
