For life An Obvious Christmas is inspired by Taylor Swift again Travis Kelce romance — and the holiday film has created the perfect alchemy of Easter eggs for fans to uncover.
Written by a die-hard Swift fan Eirene Tran Donohuethe film follows Bowyn Sykes (Jessica Nkosi) as the world’s biggest pop singer whose professional life flourishes even as her personal life struggles with previous flames and public scrutiny.
Drew Gonville (Laith Wallschleger) is an NFL wide receiver known for his charming attitude, strong family values and old-fashioned party-animal ways. When the pair meet backstage at one of Bowyn’s concerts, sparks begin to fly (pun intended) – but both will have to see how their love can withstand the pressure of the spotlight.
Does it sound like you’ve seen this movie before? Well, you have, but I hope you like the ending. Swift and Kelce met in a similar way after the Kansas City Chiefs announced on the “New Heights” podcast last spring that they tried to get Swift to join him. The Eras Tour to pass on his phone number. His plan failed, but Swift was impressed, and the two began dating soon after. Their love story quickly became popular around the world, and one year later, they are still going strong.

Anyone who likes Swift knows that she has a very close relationship with her mother, Andreadad, Scottand my brother, Austin. Bowyn, on the other hand, is the only child whose father died when the film begins. He also broke up with his mother, who he says “pushed” him too much in this industry, which caused their relationship to break down.
Both Bejeweled
When the film opens, Bowyn is filming a bop music video for a Christmas breakup. Although the song doesn’t sound like Swift’s music, the visuals are very similar to those from her “Bejeweled” music video. A color scheme similar to “Lavender Haze” can also be released in his Midnight season.
Lucky Number
Any Swift fan knows her connection to the number 13. An Obvious Christmas honors the singer’s favorite number by creating Drew No. 13 for the Bombers. Later in the movie, Bowyn is also seen wearing a letterman-like jacket to support him, meaning he, too, donates the number 13.
Arrow (Head)
While Swift’s fans are known as Swifties, Bowyn’s fans are called Arrowheads in the movie (Bow-yn arrow, as in “arrow and arrow.” Get it?).
Swift has a song titled “The Archer” from her 2019 album dear, but more than that, Kelce’s team, the Chiefs, plays at Arrowhead Stadium, which is where Swift made his first appearance at one of his games (and has made several appearances since). Kelce has also been known to do an arrow/arrow pose after scoring a touchdown, which Swift recreated during her Eras Tour performance of “So High School.” (That’s a song dedicated to Kelce, by the way.)
All Star Player
Like Kelce, Drew is known as one of the best football players of his time. The difference? Kelce is a tight end for the Chiefs, and Drew is a (fictional) Bombers player. Drew also plays on the same team as his brother, Rob (Dennis Andres), who is the quarterback of the Bombers. While Kelce’s real brother, Jasonand he was an NFL star before retiring in early 2024, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles – and he was a center, not a QB.
Another – and perhaps unintended – overlap is that at first Christmas in the Spotlightt, Drew fights his game. Kelce, too, has had a slow (by his standards) start to the 2024-2025 season.
Family Values
Drew’s family is very similar to the Kelces in the movie, and Drew is close to his brother who is both married and has a daughter. In real life, Jason is married to wife Kylie, and the two share three daughters with four on the way.
Drew and Rob also have a close relationship with their Midwestern parents, just like the Kelce brothers do in real life, with their parents – like. Donna again Ed — come to “all” the brothers’ games. (Donna was known to fly across the country on Sundays before Jason’s retirement just to show up to both of her sons’ games.)
Concert Meet Cute
In the film, Drew takes his nephew to a Bowyn Sykes concert and when the pair meet backstage, sparks quickly fly. Fans of Swift and Kelce’s story know that when Kelce tried to meet her before her other The Eras Tour shows – so he could give her a friendship bracelet with her phone number on it – he turned down the opportunity. How they actually met remains a mystery, other than telling Swift TIME in 2023 that he heard Kelce’s bracelet design and thought it was “too metal.” He also revealed that they started dating in June of that year. He made his first public appearance at one of his concerts three months later.
While the two have already met in the movie, Drew invites Bowyn to one of his Bombers games in the movie during a public interview, and Bowyn takes him up on it. The difference? Bowyn is attending a Thanksgiving game to match the movie’s holiday theme, while Swift is attending her first Chiefs game in September.
Hobbies
A small but significant nod to Swift’s vision, Bowyn is a huge fan of baking – and very good at it.
(Ex) boyfriends are bad
No one knows the details of Swift’s past relationships — but if she’s going by her songs alone, she’s had a few tough breakups. In An Obvious ChristmasBowyn – who, like Swift, is maligned for her public dating history – is dating devoted actor Hudson (David Pinard). His manager even noted that before Drew, only Bowyn dated “proud actors and broke indie rockers. [her] heart for the past 15 years.”
Hudson feels like an amalgamation of Swift’s worst exes. And while her character is very familiar, the film says she refuses to walk him on “red carpets.” Before Kelce, Swift had never attended public events with her partner, mostly avoiding the limelight during her six-year relationship with her ex-husband. Joe Alwyn. (“The front lines don’t ignore me / I’m the best at this party,” her 2022 single “You’re Losing Me,” which seemed like a romantic ending.)
When Bowyn meets Drew, the two ponder their options about being honest in their relationship, but ultimately decide not to keep it a secret. Swift and Kelce have done the same and have been seen supporting each other and attending events together many times.
A Few Common Songs
An Obvious Christmas he apparently made an effort to use Swift’s lyrics and song titles as dialogue for the film. Songs like “All Too Well” make an appearance, but so do lines like, “Let the games begin,” a song from Swift’s “Is It Good For It?”
Another nod comes when Drew’s niece says “she can’t come to the phone right now, because she’s dead” – a line from Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” chorus off. Reputation.
Bowyn also describes herself as “never a cheerleader type, more of a cool girl,” a reference to Swift’s “You Belong With Me” from her. I’m afraid the album.
There are a lot of Easter eggs with a voice, but it’s so much fun to find them yourself.
