Divided Straits: Internal divisions over Taiwan’s future | Documentary

As Carey prepares to defend Taiwan, he discovers that not everyone thinks the way he does.

Following tensions between Taiwan and China, 25-year-old Carey Chang joins public defense classes and begins firearms training. Like hundreds of young people, Carey is learning the skills he believes he needs to defend himself in the event of a Chinese attack. But Carey’s father, Mr Hu, thinks he is wasting his time. Although Carey advocates for Taiwan’s independence, he listens to friends and family who believe that Taiwan and China must work toward a path of reunification if both sides want peace. As Carey thinks about their ideas, she wonders if she should continue preparing for the day she hopes will never come. Divided Straits is a documentary film by Roger Cheng and Julie Zhu.
