RJ Martin told “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Tuesday that he has been living with Mangione for six months at Surfbreak Coliving in Honolulu, which is a self-described “remote and digital coworking space.”
“Each time [Mangione] living in Surfbreak, he was a great member of the community. He kind of following our principles and our ethos of leaving things better than you found them. He was always giving, taking care of other people. Even after he got out, he came and spent time giving back to the community, leading a book club,” said Martin.

He added that they became good friends, worked together and played volleyball together.
“He’s the type of guy who was doing everything he could to take care of himself despite having a lot of back pain and, you know, a tough issue,” Martin told Fox News host Jesse Watters.

Mangione was arrested by police at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania and arrested on multiple charges before New York prosecutors filed a case. second degree murder against him on Monday night for the shooting death of Thompson.

Martin said he suggested his roommate and other book club members read Unabomber Ted Kaczynski’s manifesto, explaining that at the time, it was kind of “half a joke.”
Mangione he is said to have explained Kaczynski’s writings “as interesting,” although Martin denied turning the 26-year-old into a known killer.

“I feel strange because he was a good friend and I consider him a close friend and that someone who would kill someone is not at all compatible with the person I lived with, the person I cooked with, the person I knew, was part of the book club and other activities,” said Martin. “It’s like two completely different people.”
