Quinn Hughes collected a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Vancouver Canucks to a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
Conor Garland, Jake DeBrusk and JT Miller also scored for the Canucks, who completed a sweep of three California teams on the road. Goalkeeper Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves.
Quinton Byfield and Vladislav Gavrikov responded for Amakhosi, who went on to win two games. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 19 shots.
DeBrusk broke a 1-1 tie at 5:51 of the second period with his third goal of the season. Hughes connected on a pass down the ice to the bottom of the right circle, and DeBrusk outshot Kuemper before tucking the puck into the cage. DeBrusk has scored in three straight games after sitting out the first nine contests of the campaign.
Hughes extended the lead 2:44 into the third period by working his way to the green before sending a long, glancing shot into the net for his third goal of the season.
Gavrikov made it a one-goal game with his first goal of the season at 13:57 of the third period, but Miller’s empty-net goal with 74 seconds left, his fifth of the season, sealed the victory.
Byfield opened the scoring 103 seconds into the conference with his second goal of the season and second in as many games. The big forward won the puck at the blue line, zoomed in on a defender and slipped a shot into the back of the cage.
Garland pulled the Canucks even on the power play five minutes after Kings forward Tanner Jeannot was flagged for headbutting Brock Boeser. Garland put the puck on the left side, and was credited with his fourth goal of the campaign when Kuemper put the puck into his net.
After receiving a game-tying penalty for his hit on Boeser, who did not return, Jeannot will automatically have his violation reviewed by the league.
The Kings were also without defenseman Mike Anderson for the last time. Anderson left the game after being hit by a puck shot at the point.
