Israeli leader tells Biden ‘we must return hostages’ who are ‘going through hell in the pits of Gaza’

Israel and the US “must bring back the hostages” who are “going through hell in the tunnels of Gaza,” one of the country’s leaders told President Biden during his visit to the White House on Tuesday.

“I know that you are working hard to make sure that this war will end and that, first of all, there will be security for the people of Israel, and for the people of Lebanon,” said Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Biden added that 101 hostages have been held in the Gaza Strip for more than 400 days.

“I know, Mr. President … day by day, day by day, you actively seek their safe return home as they pass through the hell of the pits of Gaza. Obviously, you think and work the next day as well, which may be a way of hope for the people of the region and the ability to have our neighbors, and and we, live in safety and peace,” continued Herzog. “But first, we have to get the hostages back.”

“I agree,” Biden replied.
