Liverpool Contract Talks With Van Dijk Continue, But No Deal Yet

Liverpool have offered the defender a new contract Virgil van Dijkbut the two sides have not reached an agreement, according to reports.

Van Dijk, 33, is one of three key Liverpool players whose current contract expires at the end of the 2022-23 season, along with Mohamed Salah again Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Although Liverpool are determined to keep hold of their influential captain, the report claims that the club’s first contract has fallen short of Van Dijk’s expectations. The Dutchman currently earns around £220,000 a week, less than Salah’s club record £350,000 a week.

Talks are ongoing among Liverpool’s leadership, including the chief executive Michael Edwards and sports director Richard Hughesand representatives of Van Dijk. However, it seems that the only sticking point is the length of a potential new deal, with the club willing to offer a two-year deal given Van Dijk’s age.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has avoided commenting publicly on the contract conditions of his star players, but the club has reiterated its desire to keep Van Dijk, who impressed in the recent 2-0 win. Manchester City .

The report suggests that the release of details about Liverpool’s contract offer to Van Dijk could be a one-sided strategic move to gain leverage in negotiations. With the January transfer window approaching, the club and player will be determined to resolve the situation in the coming weeks.
