Ngwenya kills a woman in Indonesia despite her colleague trying to get her out of the animal’s jaws

A crocodile attacked and killed a woman while working in a palm oil plantation in central Indonesia, local police said, and her body fell from the animal’s ropes.

Indonesia is home to several species of crocodiles attack and kill people.

The woman, 44, was working with her colleagues in the province of West Kalimantan on the island of Borneo when a crocodile chased the two, bit the victim on his left hand and dragged him into a hole.

The woman’s partner tried to free her from the animal’s jaws but failed, before running to report the incident to the police in the coastal district of Ketapang, police said.

“After a 90-minute search, the body of the deceased was found,” said local police chief Bagus Tri Baskoro in a statement on Thursday.

He said the remains of the women were found still in the hands of the crocodile “not far” from where it attacked. The animal freed its body when rescuers approached it, he added.

Borneo is split between Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia and is home to large tracts of forest that host a kaleidoscope of exotic animals.

Palm oil plantations and logging projects have been criticized in the past for encroaching on Borneo’s rainforests.

In August, the crocodile killed a 54-year-old woman as he bathes in a river in the Maluku Islands in Indonesia. That same month, a 63-year-old tin miner was killed by a crocodile near a river on the island of Bangka in Sumatra.

In 2019, a scientist was dragged from his enclosure by a large captive crocodile and killed on the island of Sulawesi.

In 2018, a mob in Indonesia’s eastern Papua region killed nearly 300 crocodiles in retaliation after a local man was killed by one of the reptiles.

Indonesia has also seen several python attacks this year. In August, a the woman was found dead by his daughter after being attacked by a python in central Indonesia.

In July, the woman was there he was found dead inside the snake’s stomach after swallowing him whole in the village of Stepa, in the Southern province of Sulawesi.

A month before that, a the woman was found dead inside the stomach of a python in another region of South Sulawesi.
