Piers Morgan, Neil deGrasse Tyson fight for transgender athletes, equality: ‘Dig yourself in a small hole’
Astrologer Neil deGrasse Tyson and host Piers Morgan debate trans athletes in a heated debate this week about the future of competitive sports.
“What I’m seeing is that sports are at the edge of how to handle this transgression,” Tyson said on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” “It’s at the frontier of how to solve that. And I’m doing this now: think that the future of sports is not gendered, it separates and sorts people by hormone levels.”
Tyson recently spoke with comedian Bill Maher on his show to discuss the role of scientists in debating the inclusion of trans athletes in men’s and women’s sports.

“I do this, but imagine if it was,” he said. “That would be fun. You get a hormone test, you’re in this category and you’re competing against other people at the same level.”
“That sucks. Neil, that sucks,” Morgan said.
“No it’s not! I’ll tell you why not,” Tyson said.

“I say this with respect because I love you, but it seems to me that you have dug yourself a little hole with this issue and are trying to get out of it,” said Morgan. “And now you’re raising some crazy cat ideas, and the science, to me, is obvious. You’ve given the best argument I’ve heard for why we separate the sexes.”
“You misquoted me in this interview,” Tyson said.
Tyson asserted that in competitive sports, men were faster and stronger than women.
“Across the board it is,” Tyson said. “There’s no argument there. That’s the plain truth.”
“Now we have to ask: Why do we watch sports at all?” he continued. “We like the balance of competition and not knowing who’s going to win. That’s what makes sports fun.”
“If there’s a wave of trans women running sports against other women, all those games will be interesting based on how we all look at sports,” Tyson said, suggesting that the inclusion of trans athletes may require rethinking what athletes are like. it matched the other.
