Prominent left-wing pundit admits he hopes to follow Trump’s victory: MAGA ‘not my mortal enemy’
Leftist “The Young Turks” editor and longtime anti-Trumper Cenk Uygur admitted that President-elect Donald Trump’s victory earlier this month brought him “hope.”
Uygur, who has regularly insulted Trump for years on his ongoing Internet talk show, posted on his X account on Friday that he welcomed Trump’s victory because it meant the “establishment” had lost.
“I’ve been trying to figure out why I’m more optimistic now than before the election, even though I was very much against the winner. I know now. MAGA is not my mortal enemy (nor is it extreme.” left). he wrote.

The point represents a significant turnaround for the progressive host who, just weeks before the election, called Trump an “unstable lunatic” during an episode of “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”
During the British journalist’s popular web show, Uygur made various points against Trump. “He thinks we should abolish our Constitution. He had no problem stepping on our democracy. I don’t allow that producer to come in here and destroy this country,” he told Morgan and his guest.
But on Friday, Uygur seemed pleased that not only the “establishment architect” had been hit, but that the mainstream media had suffered the most.
In a subsequent X post he added, “It’s not just that the establishment has lost, that their media has been hurt badly. The source of their power was not idiot politicians like Mitch McConnell and Joe Biden. The source of their power was their propaganda machine – the mainstream media.”
He went on to say that independent media have become freer following Trump’s victory.
“Now, the internet media is powerful enough that their oppressive grip on the American mind has been broken. Now, we’re in the jungle. They hate it! I love it! This unregulated marketplace of ideas is where I’m at home. I’d rather be in the jungle than in prison.”

Various commentators and Trump’s own campaign have credited the independent media with the president’s victory on election day. Before the vote, the candidate Trump chose to appear on popular podcasts and take interviews with major influencers, including Joe Rogan, The Nelk Boys, and others.
Trump’s reliance on podcasts this election cycle, unlike traditional media interviews, has paid off among Gen Z men and millennials. A Fox News Voter Survey published earlier this month found that men aged 18-44 support Trump at 53% compared to Vice President Kamala Harris at 45%.
Former Young Turks student Jimmy Dore was unconvinced by his former colleague’s new status, writing in X, “Cenk is a liar and a determined broadcaster who is a cancer on American political discourse.”
Uygur made headlines earlier this month by calling out presidential historian Allan Lichtman on Morgan’s talk show for making a mistake in predicting the 2024 election with his popular “Key to the White House” forecasting model.
The historian had predicted that Harris would win.
“Look, I’ve argued with Professor Lichtman before. I told him that his ideas about keys are absurd. I was right. He was wrong. I said he would lose his keys,” Uygur told the panel about Lichtman, who was also present. .
Lichtman replied, “No, you were wrong, and I wasn’t!” Lichtman is disturbed. “And that’s a cheap shot. And I won’t stand for it.”
