Roope Hintz cuts the ropes as the Stars pull away from the Flames
Roope Hintz broke a third-period shutout and Thomas Harley scored twice as the host Dallas Stars cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Sunday.
Jason Robertson had one hit and an assist while Wyatt Johnston and Evgenii Dadonov had one each and Oskar Back collected assists for the Stars, who snapped a two-game losing skid. Goalie Jake Oettinger made 29 saves.
Jonathan Huberdeau and Connor Zary responded for the Flames, who have won one of seven contests. Goaltender Dustin Wolf stopped 22 shots.
Dallas has an 11-2-0 home record, the best home ice winning percentage.
With the score tied 2-2, Hintz broke free on a two-on-one rush, and finished off a pass to Esa Lindell at 5:13 of the final frame for his fifth goal in his last nine games.
Two goals 61 seconds apart by Steele and Harley midway through the third period extended Dallas’ lead and Harley scored his second of the game 58 seconds into the contest.
Before the start of the third season, both clubs were relegated and led before the second break. Huberdeau opened the scoring 60 seconds into the contest with a one-time pass from Nazem Kadri as he chased his ninth goal of the season.
Johnston responded at 4:26 of the opening frame by taking advantage of a turnover at the Calgary blue line, weaving through several defenders and ripping a short shot for his sixth of the season.
Robertson put the Stars ahead 2-1 at the 7:47 mark of the second period with his sixth shutout of the campaign and first in nine outings. Robertson caught a check on the double rush and slid home a shot from the slot.
However, Zary tied the score at 16:08 in the middle frame, pouncing on a rebound at the door for his sixth of the season.
The Flames, who went 25 games without scoring more than three goals in regulation, are winless in eight road contests and are 3-7-4 in Stampede City.
