The Fire added Gregg Broughton as athletic director
Chicago Fire FC named Gregg Broughton as sporting director on Tuesday, the latest addition to head coach Gregg Berhalter’s staff.
“Gregg brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from his time in Europe, and we are delighted to have him as our Sporting Director,” said Berhalter, who is also the club’s director of football, in a club statement. “He is a passionate leader with a proven track record of developing talent and building competitive teams. As a key member of our leadership team, Gregg will help establish a high-performance culture to drive success in all areas of the athletic department.”
Broughton will manage talent development but will also be involved in recruiting and retaining players and staff, as well as assisting Berhalter with strategy.
“I am excited to join Chicago Fire FC as Sporting Director and share Gregg Berhalter’s vision to make the Fire one of the top clubs in North America,” said Broughton. “I look forward to supporting Gregg in all areas of the athletic department to develop a culture of excellence and create a player trading model that supports both signing and retaining the talent necessary to drive success.”
Broughton, a native of England, has deep roots in European football. He started his career with Wycombe Wanderers in 1999 and was most recently director of football at Blackburn Rovers in the English Soccer League.
Chicago finished last in the MLS Eastern Conference in 2024 with 30 points (7-18-9).
