The Jets don’t plan to shut down QB Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is still the starting quarterback for the New York Jets and there are no plans to rule him out due to injury, interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Monday.
Rodgers was “perfect” starting quarterback for the Jets (3-8) against the Seattle Seahawks (6-5), Ulbrich confirmed.
In response to questions centered on reports Rodgers skipped a medical because of minor leg injuries — a swollen knee and a sprained ankle — Ulbrich said there was no discussion about putting Rodgers out.
“All I can say is — and you’d have to ask Aaron if he’s healthy — but he’s better today than he’s ever been,” Ulbrich said. “So he’s feeling healthier than last month, and Aaron Rodgers is a healthy Aaron Rodgers that we all love. So, I’m happy with how that looks.”
Ulbrich, who was appointed as the interim coach in October, said when he returned from the team’s bye week that he did not know that Rodgers skipped scans or X-rays.
“That’s news to me,” Ulbrich said Monday.
The Jets have lost seven of the last eight games and Ulbrich said on Monday that another thing they are focusing on after the bye week is keeping the players focused no matter how many opportunities they have to play.
Rodgers turns 41 on Dec. 2 and has said he plans to return for the 2025 season despite disappointing results so far in what he described as a breakout season. Rodgers, who was acquired in a trade from the Packers in 2023, was lost for the entire season when he tore his Achilles for the first time with New York.
He has 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2024 but hasn’t had a pick since the loss on Oct. 20 in Pittsburgh.
The Jets are making plans to move forward with front office interviews for general manager and head coach. Owner Woody Johnson’s relationship with Rodgers has been publicly questioned, but a conflicting report surfaced Sunday that the two recently dined together in New York.
