A test drive in Kochi, India, turned into a disaster when two powerful and expensive Mercedes-AMG models collided head-on, causing a total of over $600,000 worth of damage to both cars. The collision between Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance and SL 55 cars left the cars damaged and all those involved were taken to the hospital for treatment. This accident first happened two months ago, but it has recently received attention after pictures and reports appeared on social media.
It is reported that the sequence of events started when the driver of the bright orange GT 63 SE Performance lost control after hitting the high part of the old train. The GT 63 S then rear-ended the Hyundai Accent before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the SL 55 which was also being tested at the same location. According to Kaumudi Online, no dead bodies have been reported, and all those involved have received medical attention.
Both luxury models were heavily affected by the crash. The front end of the GT 63 SE Performance was severely damaged, the driver’s side wheel, brakes, and suspension were torn from the car, rendering it beyond repair. The SL 55 also sustained extensive damage, particularly on the passenger side, where the front wheel, bonnet, and one headlight were destroyed. The passenger side door was torn from the car during the collision, leaving it unaccounted for.
The cost of the high-performance Mercedes-AMG models in India far exceeds the prices in other markets. The SL 55 is priced at around 24.4 million Indian Rupees (about $290,000), while the GT 63 SE Performance starts at 31 million Indian Rupees (about $368,000). Both cars are likely to be sent to the scrapyard following the tragic incident, the end of two powerful machines and a reminder of the dangers associated with high-speed testing on public roads.
