World Leaders React to Trump’s Election Success
KPolitical officials around the world have started sending messages of congratulations to the former and future President of the United States, Donald Trump, who won the presidential election on Wednesday morning.

Here’s what world leaders and political figures have said so far on social media:
Australia
“Congratulations to President Donald Trump on his election victory,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote on X. “Australians and Americans are good friends and true supporters.”
“Working together, we can ensure that the relationship between our nations and peoples remains strong in the future,” Albanese wrote.
In Austria
“Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his election victory,” Chancellor Karl Nehammer wrote in German on X. “The USA is an important partner for Austria. We look forward to expanding and strengthening our transatlantic relationship together to effectively face global challenges.”
Canada
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated Trump on X, calling the “friendship” between the US and Canada “the envy of the world,” and vowed to work with the President-elect. Attached to the document, Trudeau posted a photo of the two world leaders walking together during Trump’s first presidency.
Czechia
Prime Minister Petr Fiala also congratulated Trump on winning the presidential election. “Our common goal is to ensure that the relationship between our countries remains at a high level, despite the changes in administration, and that we continue to improve it for the benefit of our citizens,” Fiala wrote in X.
El Salvador
President Nayib Bukele sent to X. “Congratulations to the President Elect of the United States of America @realDonaldTrump,” alongside a photo of him with Trump. “May God bless you and guide you.”
Ethiopia
“Congratulations to President Donald Trump (@realDonaldTrump) on your victory and re-election,” Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed wrote on X. “I look forward to working together to further strengthen the relationship between our two countries during your time.”
France
“Congratulations to President Donald Trump,” President Emmanuel Macron wrote in French on X. “We are ready to work together as we have done for four years. About your beliefs and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”
In Germany
Chancellor Olaf Scholz wrote on X: “Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his election as US President. For a long time, Germany and the US have been working together successfully to promote prosperity and freedom on both sides of the Atlantic. We will continue to do that for the well-being of our citizens.”
Hungary
“The biggest comeback in US political history,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sent to X. “Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on his big win. The most needed victory on Earth!”
India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X: “Big congratulations to my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory. As you build on the success of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our cooperation to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let us work for the betterment of our people and promote global peace, stability and prosperity.”
Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara addressed Trump and his wife Melania in a short letter to X: “Dear Donald and Melania Trump,” they wrote. “Congratulations on the biggest comeback in history! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a strong commitment to the greater alliance between Israel and America. This is a big win! In true friendship, yours, Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu. “
Italy
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni conveyed “sincere congratulations” to Trump.

Malaysia
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim wrote on X: “Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his remarkable political comeback and victory in the US presidential election. This new chapter brings renewed opportunities, and we are ready to move forward with hope, cooperation and shared purpose.
“The United States remains Malaysia’s largest source of foreign investment and is an important player in the Asia-Pacific region. In the Netherlands

in Norway
“Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his victory in the US presidential election,” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre posted on X. “The US is Norway’s most important partner. I look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship with the new Trump administration. “
Philippines
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. wrote on X: “President Trump has won, and the American people have won. I congratulate them on their victory in a game that showed the world the strength of American values.”
“We look forward to working with President Trump on many issues that will bring mutual benefits to two nations that have deep ties, shared beliefs, common vision, and a long history of cooperation,” Marcos wrote.
Marcos added that he is “hopeful that this unshakable alliance, tested in war and peace, will have the power to do good, blazing the way for prosperity and peace in the region and on both sides of the Pacific.”
“This is a long-term partnership to which the Philippines is fully committed, because it is based on the ideals we share: freedom and democracy.
“I personally saw President Trump when I was a young man, so I know that his strong leadership will lead to a better future for all of us,” Marcos concluded. “Congratulations, President Trump!”
The Philippines is one of the US’s allies in the Indo-Pacific region, helping to counter China’s growing influence there. While some have warned that a Trump presidency will mean an unconventional foreign policy, experts have previously told TIME that reckoning with China is still a bipartisan deal and likely won’t be affected by Trump’s return.
Poland
President Andrzej Duda used a series of emojis to congratulate Trump on X. “You made it happen! 👏👏👏🇵🇱🤝🇺🇸” he wrote.
Romania
“Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on this historic victory!” Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu sent to X. “Romania is ready to work together to improve our 🇷🇴🇺🇸 Strategic Partnership. Under your new leadership we hope for peace and prosperity for all our citizens! We look forward to a fruitful collaboration!”
Serbia
“Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on your victory,” President Aleksandar Vučić wrote on X. “Together, we face difficult challenges ahead. Serbia is willing to work with the USA for stability, growth, and peace.”
Spain
“Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on your victory and your election as the 47th President of the US,” Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez wrote on X. “We will work on our bilateral strategic partnership and a strong transatlantic partnership.”
Turkish
In a statement written in Turkish by X, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan praised his “friend” Trump, “who won the presidential election in the United States after a great struggle and was re-elected as the President of the United States.”
“In this new period that will begin with the American elections, I hope that the relationship between Turkey and the US will be strengthened, that the problems and wars of the region and the world, especially the Palestinian issue and the Russian-Ukraine war, will end. I believe that many efforts will be made to have a just world,” he said. -Erdoğan. “I hope that the election will be beneficial for our friendly and united people in the United States and for all people.”
In the UK
Prime Minister Keir Starmer went to the X to congratulate Trump, saying he looked forward to working with him in the coming years. “As close allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in protecting our values of freedom, democracy and business,” he said in his statement.
But Starmer’s relationship with Trump may have gotten off to a shaky start. Trump’s campaign has accused his Labor administration of “foreign interference” after volunteers from the left-wing party traveled to the US to help campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris. At the time, the foreign secretary in the Labor government, David Lammy, in a 2018 TIME article, described Trump as “a misogynist, neo-Nazi-sympathizer.” Lammy has since congratulated Trump, writing on X: “The UK has no greater friend than the US, with a special relationship enjoyed on both sides of the Atlantic for over 80 years. We look forward to working with you and @JDVance for years to come. “
Ukraine
President Volodmyr Zelensky posted on X: “Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his stunning election victory!
“I remember our great meeting with President Trump back in September, when we discussed in detail Ukraine’s strategic relationship with the US, the Victory Plan, and ways to end Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to a “peace with strength” approach to world affairs. This is the very goal that can bring peace to Ukraine closer. I hope we will use it together.
“We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under the strong leadership of President Trump. We count on continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States.
“We are interested in developing political and economic cooperation that will benefit both our countries. Ukraine, as one of the most powerful military countries in Europe, is committed to ensuring long-term peace and security in Europe and the Transatlantic community with the support of our partners.
“I look forward to personally congratulating President Trump and discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine’s relationship with the United States.”
Trump has shown little interest in supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, even accusing Zelensky of “letting that war begin.”
Zimbabwe
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa wrote in X that his country is “ready” to work with Trump now that he has won the White House. “The world needs more leaders who speak for the people,” he said.
The European Commission
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on X: “I warmly congratulate Donald J. Trump. The EU and the US are more than just allies. We are bound by true relationships among our people, including 800 million citizens. So let’s work together on a strong transatlantic agenda that continues to deliver them.”
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also congratulated Trump on his election. “His leadership will once again be the key to keeping our Alliance strong. I look forward to working with him and furthering peace with strength through #NATO,” he wrote on X.
Trump’s commitment to the military alliance is appealing.
